Building and Personnel Security

Louisiana Tech University has been blessed with a local environment of minimal crime. In an ongoing effort to continue this trend, the University has devoted some of its limited resources to provide a modern infrastructure for safety of personnel and property. Some examples of this are as follows:

1. Over the years significant expenditures have been made to provide a well-lit campus utilizing high mast lighting and smaller lighting off buildings.

2. The Campus is patrolled frequently.

3. Students and staff desiring to cross the campus at night may use the University Police escort service.

4. A modern keyless dormitory security system has been installed. As funding becomes available, non-dormitory buildings will be added to this system.

5. Video cameras have been installed in various areas on campus to monitor selected parking lots and pedestrian traffic avenues.

6. Deferred maintenance funds have been used to replace exterior doors to ensure proper operation and building security.

The campus has had very few break-ins or vandalism. University Police make rounds of all property and check building doors to ensure the safest possible conditions. Obviously, it is the responsibility of all employees and students to ensure that the doors are closed and not propped open.

At night, weekends and during holiday periods, fewer people are in buildings; therefore, the risk of vandalism and theft increases. During these times, individuals should be more vigilant in making sure that they lock buildings and offices as they enter and leave. By taking these measures, you will add to the personal safety of all. These measures also aid in the protection of movable equipment and decrease the possibility of vandalism.
