SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY

Position. The Department of Speech at Louisiana Tech University seeks candidates to fill a nine-month, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level for the graduate training program in speech-language pathology. The search begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications. A doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology/Communicative Sciences and Disorders is required with the area of expertise open. Preference will be given to applicants with university teaching and clinical supervision experience. This individual must hold a current Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) and hold or be eligible for licensure as a speech-language pathologist by the state of Louisiana. The individual filling this position will assume a critical role in the academic and clinical education of the program’s graduate students.

Responsibilities. This position involves teaching graduate courses in area(s) of interest and expertise and supervising graduate student clinical practicum in the Louisiana Tech University Speech and Hearing Center. Additionally, the individual filling this position will participate in departmental, college, and university committee structure; engage in clinically related and professional activities such as innovative program development; participate in collaborative evidence-based research with departmental faculty; conduct personal research; direct graduate student research; participate in professional activities representing the department at local, state, and regional levels; and maintain professional affiliations.

The Program. The Department of Speech, administratively housed in the College of Liberal Arts, offers a pre-professional degree in speech-language pathology, a bachelor’s degree in speech communication, a Master of Arts in speech-language, and the Doctorate of Audiology (Au.D.). The program holds CAA accreditation in speech-language pathology and Audiology. There are 13 full-time and one half-time faculty lines for approximately 40 full-time M.A. students in speech-language pathology, 16 Au.D. students, and 70 pre-professional students. The Louisiana Tech University Speech and Hearing Center is housed within the department and provides students with on-campus assessment and treatment training experiences with individuals of all ages and types of speech, language, and hearing disorders. Audiological facilities include double-wall, double-booth testing suites and state-of-the-art equipment for ENG, ABR, OAE, and tympanometry testing for adults and children and hearing aid dispensing. The clinical facilities also include individual and group treatment rooms with accompanying observation areas, a supportive speech and hearing science laboratory, and a student computer lab. On-campus training experiences are supplemented by a variety of opportunities in external affiliations with local, state, and regional facilities.

The University. Louisiana Tech University is categorized as an SREB Four-Year 2 institution, as a Carnegie Doctoral/Research University-Intensive, and as a COC-SACS Level VI institution. As a selective admissions university, it offers a broad range of fully accredited undergraduate degrees, master’s degrees in a variety of areas, and doctoral programs in areas of specified expertise. Included among the university’s many special programs and facilities are the Center for Biomedical Engineering and Rehabilitation Science which has been identified as a Center of Excellence by the Louisiana State Legislature and the University of Louisiana System, the Institute for Micromanufacturing, and the Professional Development and Research Institute in Blindness. The university campus is located in Ruston in north central Louisiana, 70 miles east of Shreveport and 30 miles west of Monroe on I-20.
